Mao Zedong

Background Information

Delegates will be thrown into one of the most tumultuous periods of modern history, where ideals of revolution, Cold War paranoia, and national change converge. This committee places its delegates in Mao Zedong's China, framing a competition between ideology and pragmatism as a one-party state grapples with its definition. As the Chinese Communist Party consolidated power in the aftermath of 1949, internal rivalries, mass movements, and sweeping reforms reshaped every aspect of society. Delegates will face critical questions of loyalty, leadership, and legacy as they determine how to guide China through famine, industrialization, and cultural upheaval.

Delegates will have to find a balance between Mao's continuous revolution and the practical demands of governance, economic survival, and social stability through debate and negotiation. Every decision will lead to a conclusion that will affect everything from the rise and fall of key leaders to the direction of China's future. Will the delegates maintain the radical purity of Maoism or risk reform to keep the country strong? The fate of the revolution lies in their hands.
